The FAA has been working with the Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI) and the Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA) to establish a safe protocol for the operation of small Unmanned Aerial Systems (sUAS), or more commonly called “drones”, in the National Airspace. There are two ways to fly your drone. You can fly for recreational purposes or as a commercial drone operator. In either case, safety is paramount and should be considered above all else. Below will provide some information regarding both recreation and commercial operations. If you have any questions or unsure about which set of rules your flight will fall under, please contact the Reno FAA Flight Standards District Office (FSDO) at (775) 858-7700 and they will be more than happy to assist you. Minden-Tahoe Airport management understands that drone operators, just like in manned aviation, desire a safe operating environment.
Please contact the airport if you wish to fly a drone within 2 miles of the airport
This is because airplanes will be at low altitudes while preparing to take off or land at the airport and the potential for a collision will be at its greatest.
