The Minden-Tahoe Airport has land available for leasing. A land lease allows an individual to plan, purchase and build a hangar or business to their needs and desires. Traditionally, a land lease at the airport is a 40 year lease with rates between $0.30 and $0.40 a square foot annually depending on the location. In addition, a $750 application fee is required.

Common Leasing Questions

Does this mean that I am buying land on the airport?
A land lease keeps land ownership with the county but provides an investor a long-term lease that allows them to build and develop.

What am I allowed to build?
Just about anything with an aeronautical purpose. The most common building are hangars, FBO, and other building that support the businesses. It’s important to note that all building and structures MUST have an aeronautical purpose and non-aeronautical storage is prohibited on the airport.

How long is the lease?
Traditionally a land lease has a Thirty (30) year initial term with two (2) additional five (5) year options to extend the lease. In total, a lease can be forty (40) years long.

What happens when my lease ends?
There are three options: (1) Renew the lease at the current land lease rate. (2) Offer the buildings to revert to country ownership. This option is subject to county approval. (3) Remove the building and return the land to its original state.

Can a sell my hangar or transfer my lease?
Yes you can! All that’s required is the new owner fill out a land lease application and the $750 application fee.
